Anker A3143 Review – Anker 20W Bluetooth Speaker Review

The Anker A3143 20 watt Bluetooth speaker I’m about to review is currently (at time of review) the number one bestselling wireless speaker at for two reasons (in my opinion), it’s really loud and the bass is truly amazing. An eight hour playback time, 2×10 watt drivers and 2 passive subwoofers all adds up to a truly immersive audio experience.

Anker A3143 Bluetooth Speaker – Design

From a design point of view, it’s clear that Anker has designed this Bluetooth speaker with a focus on exclusivity. Clean design lines and a unique oval shape sets this speaker unit apart from previous Anker models. The A3143’s casing is made of plastic and the unit comes fitted with a fabric mesh in front, but this does not detract from the overall high-quality finish of the device.

User controls are placed on top of the speaker (only 4 buttons that add to the minimalist appearance of this Anker device) and the charging port and AUX socket can be found on the right side of the unit.

The A3143 also stands out given its reduced dimensions (8.3 x 2.4 x 2.4 inches), which are nevertheless counterbalanced by a solid build that is evident in the speaker’s weight (617 g or 21 ounces). Overall, the Anker A3143 feels robust and stable and looks pretty stylish considering its rather low price point. The one drawback of the design for me is the high gloss finish on top of the speaker, it’s a real finger print magnet.

Anker A3143 Bluetooth Speaker – Audio

The A3143 features some important hardware and software improvements over previous Anker Bluetooth speaker models. On the hardware front, this speaker unit boasts two passive subwoofers and two speaker drivers that yield a combined audio output of 20 Watts.

With regards to the speaker’s software, we must highlight the presence of MaxxBass technology, which is capable of transforming low-frequency signals into high-quality audio, improving the original signal’s frequency range by up to 33%.

As a result, this Anker speaker delivers a satisfying audio experience, with its bass performance being particularly good. During testing, treble notes remained crisp and clear in both indoor and outdoor settings, even when played at 80% volume. Sound quality can be fine-tuned even further if your paired device has an EQ function.

Anker A3143 Bluetooth Speaker – Battery Life

According to Anker, a full charge of the A3143 gives you 8 hours of non-stop playtime. The estimate turned out to be fairly accurate during testing, as I got just under 6.5 hours while keeping the volume at 80%. Another thing to bear in mind is that the amplifier is automatically turned off if the volume falls below a certain level, helping to extend the speaker’s battery life.

Anker A3143 Bluetooth Speaker – Connectivity Options

Pairing is achieved via Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity. While this may not be the latest Bluetooth profile, the signal does remain strong over the specified 33 feet. To pair this Anker 20W speaker with the Bluetooth device of your choice, simply press the Play button for five seconds then scan for the speaker from your mobile phone’s Bluetooth setting, you’ll hear a sound notification once the pairing process is completed.

A useful feature of this Bluetooth speaker is the built-in memory function that automatically re-connects the speaker to the last 8 paired devices (not simultaneously though). And as you would expect from a modern wireless speaker, the A3143 also has a wired back-up connectivity option and comes with a 3.5mm jack.

However, keep in mind that despite its Bluetooth functionality, the lack of a built-on microphone means that this wireless unit does not support hands-free calling.
