What’s in the box?

The Anker SoundCore Bluetooth Speaker is delivered in a neatly packaged box that contains the Bluetooth speaker unit, a user guide, a micro USB charging cable, a warranty card and a feedback form. Packaging is kept simple and boxed product weight is approximately 1lb (499g).

Anker SoundCore Design

Solid build quality is evident throughout both in the choice of materials and in the overall design, which is minimalist but nevertheless effective and definitely user friendly. The Anker SounCore is presented in a rectangular casing made of a matte soft black plastic that has a pleasant rubbery feel.

A metal grille with Anker’s logo covers the front end of the speaker and the unit is completed by 5 built-in buttons on the upper side (On/Off – Volume Up/Down – Pair – Play/Pause/Answer) and 3 ports on the side, these are: a MicroUSB charging port, the 3.5mm socket to plug in non wireless audio equipment and the built in mic for taking hands free calls.

The Anker SoundCore has 2 full range speaker drivers with a total output of 6W, there’s also a unique spiral bass port which adds a really solid punch to the SoundCore. The overall volume is pretty decent considering the dimensions of the speaker; the SoundCore can easily fill a small to medium size room.

For me, the best volume setting was around the 80% mark, when played above the 80% mark there was just a hint of distortion, not too much but just noticeable.

Battery Life

This is where the Anker SoundCore really leaves the competition is the dust. Unlike other Bluetooth speakers I’ve tested, the Anker SoundCore is capable of up to 24 hours playback once fully charged. Its got a rechargeable battery which takes between 5-6 hours to get fully charged – not bat at all considering how long playback time you get from the Anker SoundCore.

Obviously I haven’t played it for 24 straight hours but I have been using it for well over a week and haven’t had to recharge it yet. (update – it needed recharging at the end of 10 days)

Connection Options

Anker has kept the connection options very basic on the SoundCore. As with most other budget Bluetooth speakers, there are 2 options for connecting your device, Bluetooth 4.0 handles wireless audio streaming whereas a built-in 3.5mm audio port offers wired connectivity for older devices.

Anker Soundcore Bluetooth Speaker review

Extraordinary battery life – Anker knows that a high-capacity battery is not enough when it comes to getting the most out of Bluetooth speakers. This is why the SoundCore is equipped with Anker’s proprietary power management system, which gives you up to 24 hours (or 500 average-length songs) of playback time in a single charge.

Improved connectivity options – The inclusion of cutting-edge Bluetooth 4.0 technology gives this Anker Bluetooth speaker solid connectivity options at a maximum range of 66 feet. A 3.5mm port is included to expand connectivity options to non-Bluetooth enabled devices.

Performance and functionality are guaranteed – The SoundCore has been built to last and to deliver high-quality audio for years, but should things go wrong, Anker offers a superb manufacturer’s guarantee, which is valid for 18 months.

All in all, the SoundCore proved to be a worthy competitor in the budget Bluetooth speaker category. While it may not be the loudest portable speaker in this category, it’s still capable of filling a room with rich and detailed audio. I was very happy to see Anker include the built in mic which for some reason was missing from the Anker A3143.
