APIE Sound Cannon – Design

The APIE Classic Sound Cannon features a unique mix of retro-inspired design and modern aesthetic touches. The result is a highly attractive boom box that is also lightweight and compact, being an ideal choice for outdoor use during camping trips, days on the beach, etc.

At 9.4 x 5.5 x 2.7 inches, this wireless speaker is not particularly small but it does have a robust appearance that causes a positive first impression. This APIE Sound Cannon has a rectangular shape, with the upper part of the body functioning as a practical handle which is quite flexible but not flimsy.

The body has a stylish brushed finish and rounded edges, as well as rubberised feet for better stability. The combination of a matte black finish with red accents along the front grille and the handle contributes to the speaker’s fresh and eye-catching design.

The uncomplicated design is also evident in the placement of the controls, which are unobtrusively located on the upper part of the handle. A blue LED light located on the underside of the handle signals that the speaker is on with a cool futuristic effect, and the grille is fitted with a digital display that shows the selected radio station or connection type in use.

APIE Sound Cannon – Audio

3D surround sound comes as standard in the APIE Classic Sound Cannon. This Bluetooth speaker comes with a cone-shaped metallic transducer, which drives sound seamlessly through low and high frequencies while preventing distortion.

Total sound output is 10 watts and sensitivity rating is 80db, which are more than enough to fill small and medium-sized rooms with crisp and clear sound.

Audio performance in an outdoor setting is also above average, since bass notes are enhanced thanks to APIE’s set of two passive radiators. There’s a fair amount of bass but it won’t be shaking your walls anytime soon.

APIE Sound Cannon – Connection and Playback

Bluetooth connectivity is supported out of the box thanks to the speaker’s 3.0 + EDR profile, which ensures a quick and reliable wireless connection and fast data transfers. A voice notification lets you know when Bluetooth mode is enabled, which is a nice touch.

Pairing is achieved within seconds – at least when tested on an iPad and iPhone. This APIE Sound Cannon allows you to play music straight off a MicroSD card or USB stick by simply inserting them into the slots located at the back of the unit, there’s even a built in FM tuner for those days when you want to catch up with your local radio stations.

I’ve tried and tested quite a few Bluetooth speakers in my time and these features are always welcomed in my opinion, it pretty much turns the speaker into a portable media player. You can pick up a USB nano flash drive or a MicroSD card pretty cheap these days and store hundreds of songs on it.
