The Aukey SK-M12 Bluetooth speaker I’m reviewing today is a loud and powerful 10W water resistant speaker that looks and sounds fantastic despite its sub £40 price tag. A super long battery life of up to 30 hours and its water-resistant design – makes this portable speaker our favourite among all the Aukey Bluetooth speaker reviews we’ve done so far.
I’ve always been a fan of Aukey’s products, ever since the first review I did for the SK-M4 I was sold on the quality of their portable speakers, among other electronic devices they sell.
The SK-M12 is (at time of writing) Aukey’s most expensive portable speaker, and having reviewed most of their speakers – I can promise you that this is their best portable speaker to date.
2Aukey SK-M12 Design
Straight out the box, this portable speaker feels solid and well constructed. The overall size and shape is noticeably bigger than any of the other Aukey speakers we’ve reviewed apart from the SK-M18 which was in a size class of its own. It measures approximately 8.23×3.27×2.87 inches and weighs just under 22g – not the lightest by any means but still fairly lightweight for an outdoor speaker of this size.
Design wise, the Aukey SK-M12 has the typical rectangular shape that we’ve come to expect from most portable speakers these days. Wrapped around the speaker is a very tough layer of silicone – this protects the speaker incase it’s accidentally dropped and it also helps to keep the speaker water tight.
If you plan on using this while cycling or backpacking, I’m pleased to say that Aukey have added an attachment point on the right side of the speaker that you can use to hook it on to a backpack or anything similar (hook strap doesn’t come with the speaker) and there’s a tripod mounting point on the bottom so you can easily attach it to a cycle handle. The 3 colour tones work really well together in my opinion, the silver back and front grills, the red hook strap and the red input cover all complement the black silicone casing perfectly.
On the top panel, there’s the volume down/previous track button, the volume up/next track button, the speakerphone answer/end/reject button, the power button and the mode (M) button which is used to select your desired audio mode. Hidden away on the left side (under the red cover) are the USB charging port, the AUX port and a tiny reset hole incase you run into trouble and need to reset it back to default.
I’ve always been a fan of really loud portable speakers, the louder it is – the better it is for me. I’ve been using this mainly with my PC to watch movies and I must say that the maximum volume and the bass this speaker puts out is insane.
As always, you normally get a lot more volume from a PC than a mobile phone but this pushed way beyond anything (of similar price) that I’ve come across so far.
Aukey designed this as an outdoor speaker so it would be wrong for me to do a review without giving a go while I’m outside, once again the SK-M12 proved to be too good to fault.
As expected the volume level was a bit lower because I was using my mobile phone – but it was still loud enough to provide a really good listening experience.
4Battery Life and Connectivity
The Aukey SK-M12 user manual gives an approximation of about 30 hours but I found out the hard way (by blasting it out for the past 6 days) that it can go well beyond 30 hours. I got 32hours and 9minutes playing everything that YouTube had to offer before it finally died. I think it’s fair to say that I was very satisfied with the SK-M12’s battery performance.
Connecting and reconnecting to this speaker is very simple even though there’s no NFC connectivity. Instead, it uses Bluetooth 4.1 and supports A2DP, AVRCP, HFP and HSP. Pairing this with my Samsung S6 took about 3 seconds and I really like the fact that they connect automatically whenever they’re both switched on.
I’m pretty sure you can tell from my Aukey SK-M12 review above that I’m a big fan of this portable speaker. Infact, I like it so much that it has now become the main portable speaker I’ve been using around the house – replacing the Oittm Realsound Bluetooth speaker with lights that I’ve been using for the past month and a half.
I usually don’t like singing praises about any device but the Aukey SK-M12 has really surprised me in terms of its build quality and audio quality to price ratio, I’m so impressed with this that I’m going to give it a full 5 star rating – the first 5 star that I’ve ever given on this site.

A really loud portable outdoor speaker with a huge battery life and robust design. All in all, a fantastic sounding portable speaker that's affordable.
